12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
There are many competing views in our world concerning what it means to be a man. Here at Lighthouse Christian Church we embrace masculinity for all God has created it to be in His original design: the ability to reproduce for the purpose of ruling and reigning (Genesis 1:26-31). Want to know the measure of a man? Look at his legacy . . . you can always tell a tree by its fruit.
We believe that our design to image forth God into the earth is fulfilled in the following ways:
Lead . . . we take responsibility for direction and pace
Protect . . . our presence brings safety and refuge
Provide . . . we are the source to those under our care
Impart . . . we bring life in all situations
Nurture . . . we tend with care those whom we have been given
Overcome . . . we are victorious in the face of opposition
We believe this is the unique call that marks the man of God as revealed by the Holy Spirit in the Scriptures. At Lighthouse Christian Church we celebrate the unique differences between men and women in our God-given masculinity. We rejoice in being men who are fully surrendered to these purposes in our lives.
We have a standard, a bar, and His name is Jesus Christ. We take His call to lay down our lives with sobriety . . . so we seek to model what it looks like to die to self and no longer indulge in the desires of the carnal nature, living for ourselves. To our brothers, we seek to encourage one another in camaraderie. To our wives, we seek to lead with confidence and understanding. To our children, we seek to demonstrate proper relationships raising them in the fear and admonition of the Lord. To all people we seek to impart the life of Christ for their good and His glory.
We hold that this is the measure of a man . . .
